Project Management - Information Systems
The Implementation of Information Systems for Companies
Hey everyone welcome back to my blog, I hope you enjoyed my discussion about the Digital economy in Ireland last week. As always I appreciate your feedback on my blogs and I take on board your suggestions. This week my blog is all about the Implementation of Information System for companies.
Information Systems is a set of interacting components that gather, process, store and distribute information in order to support decision making in an organisation.Information Systems contain data that is raw facts that represents business transactions and it can also contain information that is useful for the company while making decisions.
In my opinion, I think that companies struggle with the implementation of new Information Systems as they have not done enough research on selecting the appropriate system that the company needs. The company needs to take note of what they want from the system, analyse what their requirements are, and quantify their needs. Another idea would be to go to similar company's and talk to them and see what systems they use and for what purpose.
When this analysis is complete, the company needs to go to the market and review which system that best suits their company and they can get a system that is tailor made to suit their requirements. There are many types of Information Systems and it is vital that companies do their research as to which system would best suit their type of business as they can be costly. Businesses should weigh up the risks and opportunities of the a new Information System.
When companies introduce a new information system, they must ensure that all staff get training on the software, therefore both the company and the staff will benefit from the software as it will make their work easier. It would also be helpful if there was a staff member that has a good knowledge of the new system, that will be on hand to answer questions for the staff. When purchasing a software system, Part of the purchase package should have a point of contact that can support staff with any quires or issues that arise with the new information system.
Overall, for Companies to get value for their money they must research before they make the purchase of an Information System that will go on and help add value to their business.
Here is a video explaining the role of information system in a business.
